A delegation of GDf Africa Volunteers, comprising representatives from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the Volta River Authority (VRA), the University of Cape Coast (UCC), the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), and Telecel, conducted an initial site visit to Dodi Island in preparation for the official Kick-Off Ceremony of the Dodi Island Ecosystem Restoration & Management initiative.

This landmark project, set to launch in June 2025 in alignment with World Environment Day, aims to restore and sustainably manage the ecological balance of Dodi Island, ensuring the conservation of its biodiversity and natural resources. The initial visit provided stakeholders with firsthand insights into the island’s environmental challenges and opportunities, allowing them to assess critical areas for intervention, community engagement strategies, and potential restoration activities.

During the visit, experts from various fields—including environmental conservation, sustainable development, and corporate social responsibility—engaged in preliminary discussions on project scope, implementation phases, and collaborative efforts required for long-term success. The team also interacted with local communities and stakeholders to better understand the socio-economic dynamics and environmental concerns affecting the island.

The Dodi Island Ecosystem Restoration & Management initiative is designed to integrate scientific research, policy advocacy, and community-driven solutions to combat environmental degradation, promote afforestation, protect aquatic habitats, and foster sustainable tourism development in the region. By bringing together government agencies, academic institutions, private sector partners, and environmental organizations, this initiative underscores a collective commitment to ecological preservation and climate resilience.

As preparations for the Kick-Off Ceremony gain momentum, GDf Africa Volunteers and its partners remain dedicated to fostering a greener, more sustainable future for Dodi Island and its surrounding ecosystem.
